La Quinta Estación: “Sin Frenos”

El ahora duo español La Quinta Estación is back from a swift hiatus with a new album under their belt. “Sin Frenos” marks not only the return of Natalia Jimenez and Angel Reyero to the music scene, but it’s also symbolizes a new beginning for La Quinta Estación without Plablo Dominguez. Por si fuera poco, para este nuevo álbum, La Quinta Estación are also experimenting with new sounds.
Since their debut, Mexico welcomed and embraced La Quinta Estación like one of its own. As a homage to such warm reception, La Quinta Estación began delving into Mexican music, incorporating traditional sounds to their pop/ rock trademark music. On “Sin Frenos”, their fourth album, not only is the Mexican music influence back stronger than ever, there are a couple of tracks that venture into more rock territory… all of course without leaving the pop stratosphere.
Sin FrenosLyrically speaking, La Quinta Estación has nothing new to offer in this their fourth studio album. You’ll find canciones de amor y desamor from beginning to end.
However, thanks to the musical arrangements y a la voz de Natalia, which sounds better than ever, las rolas se salvan de caer en lo soso y cursi que suele ser el pop. While this is a definite pop album, “Sin Frenos” represent the best and the worse of La Quinta Estación. Although they have an ability of turning simple songs into pop anthems, the album can seem a bit repetitive at a first glance and the lyrics can sometimes be borderline cheesy.
Por si fuera poco, en algunas rolas, Natalia sounds like a Rocío Durcal wanna-be, and in others she sounds like she’s auditioning for the lead for La Oreja de Van Gogh. Sin duda alguna la chica tiene talento; however, she has yet to find her own voice.
Overall, “Sin Frenos” is a decent pop album, definitivamente a must for pop aficionados and La 5ta Estación fans de hueso Colorado.
Sin Frenos Outstanding Traxx: Que Te Quería, Me Dueles, Te Quiero, Recuérdame, Esta Noche No, Quiéreme Mucho, Sin Salida.
