La Santa Maria to Perform at Latin American Parade and Festival
Written by Hilda Gabriela
La Santa Maria will perform at the 3rd Annual Latin American Parade and Festival taking place on September 10th in Downtown Long Beach. The band is part of L.A.’s independent movement of musicians that fuse Mexican, South and Central American sounds to create a new type of cumbia music known as “neo-cumbia”.
Just last year, the seven-member band showcased its rhythmic repertoire at Al Borde’s Day of the Dead Music and Arts Festival, and recently took part of the summer concert series at the Levitt Pavilion Pasadena.
The Latin American Parade and Festival celebrates Latin American culture through live music, dance, food, vendors, health & wellness information, a children’s activity area and a parade. The parade starts at Pine Avenue and Sixth Street and ends at Fourth Street and The Promenade. This year, the Molina family, founders of Molina Healthcare, will serve as grand marshal to the festival, and Long Beach artist and former MOLAA director Gregorio Luke will be present as community marshal. The 3rd Annual Latin American Parade and Festival takes place from 3:00 p.m.-9:00p.m. and is free and open to the public. La Santa Maria’s performance will take place at 8:45p.m. on Stage A.
