Last summer I was having lunch at a chain burger restaurant in Pasadena when I found a flyer about the Make Music Pasadena Festival taking place a few days after. One of the bands performing was a band I never heard of but the description of them made me very curious. They were described as a hybrid of musical fusion from jazz, ranchera, cumbia, vallenato, boleros, and Afro Cuban rhythms coupled with one of best voices to come out of Los Angeles in a long time. The band was La Santa Cecilia.

Just a few weeks after the breakup of Andrea Balency Trio was announced, we receive uplifting news that Andrea Balency is doing quite well flying solo. She has taken shelter in the Big Apple to work on her first solo album which is being produced by Jose Luis Pardo from the Venezuelan rockers Los Amigos Invisibles, and is performing in this year’s Vive Latino with Mexican musicianJaime Lopez and Cafe Tacvba.
